Risk Management Requirements of Participation
OB Course Requirements:
Policy Year Relias Courses Required (PPM Format)
July 2017 - June 2018 Postpartum Hemorrhage
Hypertensive Disorders of Pregnancy
July 2018 - June 2019 Fetal Assessment and Monitoring Series
All first year participants are required to complete a Medical Practice Site Survey* (“Survey”) in addition to the course requirements listed above. The survey must be completed within your first policy year to qualify for renewal consideration with a 25% premium credit. The survey is tailored to address your practice’s needs and areas of risk. A ProAssurance Risk Resource Advisor will schedule the visit at a mutually convenient time. The Advisor will review policies, procedures, protocols, credentialing files, and patient’s medical records; along with interviews of select personnel. The survey will take approximately four hours and includes a short meeting with the physician, as well as the practice administrator. Following the visit, you will receive a written report with observations and risk reduction strategies to help you improve patient care and mitigate your professional liability risk.
Fertility and Gyn-only Physicians
Physicians specializing in fertility or Gyn-only (no obstetrics) may complete the requirements above—or choose to complete two of the courses listed below in lieu of the “Course Requirements” above (the survey for first year participants is still required). If the physician has completed all of the following online courses, please provide certificates of completion totaling at least six (6) CME hours of coursework in your specialty (completed within the previous 24 months and not utilized for Board maintenance requirements).
Traditional Online Courses Available to ALL Participants:**
- Informed Consent in Breast Cancer
- Reporting Errors: Learning from Experience
- Risk Management Basics: Protections and Pitfalls
- The Disclosure of Unanticipated Outcomes

- SBAR+R: Structuring Communication in Healthcare
- Relias also offers “clinical pearls,” short, 30-minute case-based modules. Four completed “clinical pearls” are considered the equivalent of one full Relias course
*You may fulfill this requirement by obtaining ACOG’s Safety Certification in Outpatient Practice Excellence (SCOPE) for Women’s Health.
**Successful course completion includes: passing the post-test with a grade of at least 70%, AND completing a course evaluation.
